SABH November – Say Cheese!

It’s no secret that I love cheese. I eat cheese, I cook with cheese and I even make cheese from scratch. So when I was given the opportunity to host the Sweet Adventures Blog Hop there was no question what the theme would be – cheese of course! The Sweet Adventures Blog hop is a monthly dessert link up with a different theme each month.  It’s a great way of challenging your own cooking skills and discovering a range of new and often creative dessert ideas.  I joined the hop almost from the beginning as I wasn’t very good at baking.  It has been a fantastic learning experience and now I’m pleased to say I’m no longer afraid to cook dessert and I even quite enjoy it.

Anyway, back to this months theme. I often have a cheese platter instead of dessert. While on a recent trip to France I had cheese in addition to dessert.  The Aussie’s often serve cheese as an appetizer before dinner but where I come from it is most definitely dessert.

Don’t panic, there are plenty of ways to use cheese in dessert.  The obvious option is to use the cheese as an ingredient in a dish like cheesecake.  Ricotta, cream cheese and mascarpone are all cheeses that feature regularly in dessert.  If you’re feeling adventurous, all of these cheeses can be made relatively easily at home.

Or you could get experimental and make cheese the star of the show.  There is a new restaurant trend to make cheese a dessert course in its own right; instead of serving as a cheese board a single cheese variety is turned into a dish.  Bentley restaurant in Sydney serve creative cheese courses and I had this great dish of cider jelly and pecorino at Momofuku Seiobo.

So what are you waiting for? Get baking with cheese. All we ask is that cheese is used somewhere in your dessert.  That also includes cheese substitutes if you are vegan or dairy free. I’m looking forward to reading about what you all come up with and adding new dishes to my dessert cheese repertoire.

The details:
  • Theme: ‘Say Cheese’ – incorporate some kind of cheese, dairy or other, in your dessert.

Do it Trent! Maybe you could throw in a Thai influence as well! Nothing like a challenge to make things happen in the kitchen.

Claire, I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
